The organisers of the Mobile Games Forum have put together an amazing event on the first week of October that no indie developer and game creator in Britain should miss. The GApp Fest — for Games and Apps Fest — is a one-day networking opportunity with some of the most talented individuals in the UK's mobile gaming scene.
Hosted by Nicholas Lovell of Gamesbrief, the GApp Fest will gather under one roof the people responsible for notable App Store success stories. Look out for Supermono's Tak Fung (MiniSquadron, EpicWin, Forever Drive), Simon Oliver of HandCircus (Rolando), Andrew Smith of Spilt Milk Studio (Hard Lines - reviewed here), John Chasey of Finblade (Pictureka! and Battleship) and Mediatonic's Dave Bailey, who produced Amateur Surgeon and Back To The Future series for Adult Swim and Telltale respectively.
The trendy Rich Mix space in Shoreditch, East London, will be the spiritual centre of mobile gaming development for a day packed with panel discussions, round tables and networking games. The topics will cover developing for different devices, platforms and how free to play and in-app purchasing is changing gaming. With a session titled 'Freemium overkill: please, not another talk about free to play' you get a feel of what the event is all about.
The focus is on indie development and with such a line-up it's guaranteed you'll get some key ideas and advice from successful indie devs themselves. And of course, there's always opportunity to meet new potential partners.
I'm supporting this fantastic initiative and will attend the sessions this 4th October. I hope to see you there! Tickets are still available on GApp Fest
I just received an email informing that the GApp Fest won't take place in October as planned and has instead moved to a later date in the year. The organisers sounded worried about the modest response and didn't want to disapoint anyone.
Until we hear from Gapp Fest again in the summer 2013, the focus goes now to the 10th Mobile Games Forum (MGF) being held on the 23-24th January 2013 in London.
